Frequently Asked Questions

Míocar is a membership-based carsharing service providing 24/7 access to vehicles on an hour or daily basis. As a member, you can book a car online at bookings.miocar.org or by downloading the ZEV co-op smartphone app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Míocar members must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license (this includes AB60 license holders) and a valid credit, debit or prepaid card.

A valid driver’s license is needed for your application process. Valid driver’s licenses are accepted from any of the 50 states in the United States and we also accept AB60 licenses.

Insurance, vehicle maintenance and roadside assistance are all included in the hourly and daily rates. In the event of an accident, you are responsible for a $500 deductible. You will be fully responsible for the cost of any third-party claims in the event that Míocar’s third-party insurance coverage is invalidated due to your failure to follow procedure.

Fill out an online form at bookings.zev.coop or by downloading the ZEV co-op smartphone app on Apple or Google Play. Approved members will be notified by email or by checking their ZEV co-op app within 2-3 business days after you sign up.

There are no additional costs for insurance, vehicle maintenance and roadside assistance. If your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is approved you will need to complete a 15-20 minute phone, video or in-person orientation to learn more about what to expect when using a Miocar.

Every Míocar member will receive via email a copy of the Member Handbook after they get approved and before their orientation takes place.

Each Míocar vehicle is parked at a designated “home” space. No other vehicles are allowed in these special tow-away zones, just like taxi stands and bus stops. All of our vehicles and parking stalls will have the Míocar logo on them which will allow you to access the vehicle with no problems. You can also open the ZEV co-op app and it will show you the license plate information of the vehicle you booked.

You can unlock your reserved vehicle via your smartphone. You do not need any keys! In the event that you do not have a smartphone to access the vehicle you will be issued a smartcard RFID card that you can scan to access the vehicle that you have reserved.

There is a cap on how many miles are included per trip and after you reach your limit of 150 miles per trip there will be a charge of .35 cents per mile. Remember that you are driving an electric vehicle and it has a certain range of miles it can go before it needs to be recharged.

No, you cannot take a Miocar out of the state of California.

If the car is available, you may book it via the ZEV co-op app or website. You can make hourly reservations or a 24-hour reservation.

You will be fully responsible for the cost of any third-party claims in the event that Miocar's third party insurance coverage is invalidated due to your actions or misbehavior. In the event of an accident, you are responsible for a $500 deductible.

We currently have a Chevy Bolts and Nissan Leafs. The Chevy Bolt has a 240-mile range until it will need to be recharged while the Nissan Leafs have 220-mile range and 160-mile ranges.

We will help make arrangements to accommodate your late return for the next member. If you are the member who is waiting, we will contact you as soon as we know your car might be late or switch you to another vehicle if it is available.

This is unusual, but does happen occasionally. Call us immediately at 559-379-6665 and we will help you locate the car, move to another car, or do our best to get you to your destination another way.

As a Míocar member you can drive the vehicle with other people in the vehicle. If it is discovered that a non-member has driven a car, a warning will be assessed to the account holder as well as possible termination of membership.

Only approved Míocar members with active reservations can drive the vehicle. If it is discovered that a non-member has driven a vehicle, a warning will be assessed to the account holder as well as possible termination of membership.

Míocar only allows service animals in Míocar vehicles but members must provide certification of their service animal credentials ahead of their reservation.

All Míocar vehicles are non-smoking. Evidence of smoking in a vehicle (odor or residue from butts or ashes) will result in an immediate fine to the member.  Repeated violations of this rule will result in termination of your membership.

Míocar members can request ADA adaptive controls to operate the vehicle. If you require adaptive controls, please call ahead so Míocar staff can prepare your vehicle.

We do not provide child seats and encourage you to use your own child seats should you need any during your trip.

If the vehicle you reserved is dirty when you pick it up, please report it immediately using our ZEV co-op app or by calling us at 559-379-6665. Please include the date and time of your booking along with a description of the mess and any supporting photos.

You must drop off the vehicle at the same location where you picked it up. Failure to do so will result in a fine or termination from the program.

Your account will be in pending status and you will not be able to use any vehicle. Once you upload a picture of your new driver's license, a new MVR will get processed with your new drivers license.

Miocar Covid-19 Cleaning Protocol

We will try our best to clean our vehicles after each trip, but we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case. We are taking the following steps to protect you:

We have placed CDC recommended cleaning supplies in each vehicle for you to use at the beginning and end of your trip. We strongly urge that you wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while using a Míocar and encourage you to bring your own cleaning supplies in case our supplies run out so that you can do a light cleaning of the vehicle at the start and end of your trip.

We will provide driving credit to any member that assists in a vehicle cleaning on a case-by-case basis (must be pre-approved by Míocar staff). When necessary, we will take vehicles out of service to ensure adequate cleaning/sanitation between reservations. The following is a list of high touch surface areas in the vehicles that according to industry guidelines should be cleaned at the end of each trip:

  • Door handles
  • Door Buttons
  • Inside door buttons
  • Steering wheel
  • Seat adjustments
  • Rear view mirror
  • Seat belts
  • Turn signals
  • Gear shifters
  • Touchscreens
  • Knobs
  • Glove compartment
  • Charge cards + gas cards
  • Charging station + cord
  • Below, please find a link to more information on CDC recommended cleaning supplies that can be used to properly clean your vehicle:

Note: These guidelines will be constantly changing to ensure that Miocar is following CDC guidelines on COVID-19.
